Guitarists of all ages are welcome to attend the Fourth Annual SXU Jazz Guitar Workshop Day at Saint Xavier University.
"Let's Play the Blues"
From it's roots and beyond, the workshop will examine the unique musical aspects of the blues and how to apply them to the guitar.
Topics covered at the workshop will include:
- Blues progressions: Students will examine the various ways a blues progression can be played, from it's basic 12-bar I-IV-V to a Bird Blues
- Rhythmic accompaniment
- Dominant 7th Chord voicings
- Pentatonic and Blue Scale modes and fingerings
- Improvisation techniques
- Blues riffs, intros and endings
The workshop is open to students of all-ages. Basic knowledge of guitar fretboard, performance technique, and music notation reading will be helpful. Students may bring either their acoustic or electric guitar. Some amplifiers will be provided, but students may bring their own as well.
Questions regarding the workshop may be directed to Shawn Salmon, director of Jazz Studies, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
