Teacher Preparation Programs

The School of Education at Saint Xavier University offers baccalaureate programs leading to certification in early childhood education, elementary education, and in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences, secondary education in art, science (biology), english, social science (history), mathematics, music and spanish.

For candidates holding baccalaureate degrees, the School of Education offers master degree programs leading to initial certification in early childhood education, elementary education, secondary education, and multicategorical special education, as well as advanced certification in educational administration and supervision, reading, multicategorical special education and school counseling.

The school also offers master degree programs in curriculum and instruction, community counseling, and teaching and leadership -- a program designed for licensed, in-service educators who wish to enhance their teaching and leadership skills -- and an approval program in English as a second language/bilingual education.

Accreditation

Saint Xavier University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. All programs offered by the School of Education are approved by the Illinois State Board of Education and the unit is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Admission Requirements

To earn candidate status undergraduate students must complete the following requirements:

At the graduate level, students must complete all the following requirements:

*A $100 background check fee will be implemented for students enrolled in EDU 200 or EDUGL 470.

All secondary education candidates are required to have passed the ICTS content area test and possess a 32 credit hour major in the appropriate field.
