Center for Financial Services and Derivatives
Welcome Message from the Director
Greetings and welcome to the Center for Financial Services and Derivatives at Saint Xavier University.
Our Center was inaugurated in 2013 with a mission to promote financial literacy to our students and to the local community with our specialty being in derivative education. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group Foundation funded the initial set up of the Center.
Thanks to the second grant from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Group Foundation, the Center hosts the Cougar Student Hedge Fund. This fund is fully managed by SXU finance students under the guidance of finance professors and industry professionals. Through this opportunity, SXU students can apply their knowledge learned in class to real-world security trading. Our students gain hands-on real-world experiences and sophisticated skills that help them secure jobs in the investment field leading to leadership positions. Our Cougar Student Managed Hedge Fund was highlighted in the Financial Times.
Although COVID-19 is impacting our campus and personal lives, the center does not stay idle. Faculty members are active in research projects that enhance public financial knowledge. For example, researchers have explored Chicago area economic and unemployment trends during the COVID-19 crisis, quantitative easing policies implemented by the Federal Reserve and their affect in the U.S. economy and inflation, the devolution of U.S. households' stock ownership, and so forth. The Center will post imminent blogs on this research when the research is ready to be published.
Besides teaching, the center will actively help communities to plan their business ventures on sound financial principles. We'll help businesses figure out options that work best for their specific financial goals. "Before you execute your next business, run that by us."
Please stay tuned for more.
