Learn About Life on the Molecular Level
Biochemistry explains the processes of life and how chemical interactions support life. Biochemistry provides excellent preparation for students who intend to pursue graduate study in biochemistry or professional studies in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy and other health sciences.
At Saint Xavier University, you'll gain hands-on experience using sophisticated analytical and biochemical instrumentation. This program instills superior analytic and problem solving skills, develops strong process skills for laboratory work and provides "molecular spectacles" with which to view the world.
- You can take advantage of opportunities to participate in research with faculty and present at national, regional and local conferences.
- You can collaborate with a strong peer community through student organizations such as the SXU chapter of the American Chemical Society.
- You can gain career experience on campus while participating in peer leadership opportunities such as tutors, supplemental instruction leaders and laboratory assistants.
- You can take advantage of multiple research opportunities, experiential learning courses and scholarships/stipends available through a prestigious National Science Foundation grant awarded to SXU.
The Biochemistry Track in the chemistry major provides students with a broad background in chemistry and an emphasis on biochemistry. It is the track of choice for students who are interested in living systems at the molecular level. This track provides excellent preparation for students who intend to pursue graduate study in biochemistry or professional studies in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy and other health sciences.
