Student Experience

Student Spotlight: Laura Richardella

Laura Richardella is a communication major at Saint Xavier University, and in the fall of 2012 she chose to study vlogging for her communications senior seminar project.  She studied vlogging for an entire academic year, using a communication focus and lens.  After doing much research, she created a vlog on how to vlog.

As Laura conducted her research, she learned about a conference in Orlando, Fla., called Playlist Live. This conference allows YouTube bloggers to not only network and share their experience but also get to know their subscribers and share their knowledge of vlogging. Laura did some great networking during her trip: She met Jenna Marbles and participated in an interview for Shay Carl's I'm Vlogging Here, a documentary about vlogging.

Laura was able to attend this conference thanks to the sponsorship of University Relations. "I honestly don't think I could have gotten this experience through any other university," Laura says. "The school worked with me and allowed me to basically plan the entire trip. And trusted me to travel on my own, travel with their own production equipment and gather important information to bring back and report on Senior Seminar night.

"Coming out of Saint Xavier University, I realize I made a really great decision in choosing that university for my undergraduate degree. ... It's clear that they care about their students and really want to help them out."
