JJC Communication Transfer Guide

This transfer guide assists communication students with their transition to Saint Xavier University. Please refer to the general education requirements for an A.A. or A.S. degree found in the Joliet Junior College (MVCC) Academic Catalog.

If students complete the majority of their general education requirements prior to transferring to SXU, they may qualify for the IAI GECC Articulation Agreement with the exception of Philosophy 150: The Examined Life and a religious studies course.

The Communication Department offers a rewarding curriculum that focuses on the process and effects of communication, the Internet and personal media, in both mediated and face-to-face contexts. Communication majors can select from three areas of emphasis: strategic communication, media communication or sports communication. The department also offers an Applied Communication Major which is an online adult degree completion program designed to prepare the student for a career in communication-related and professional fields.

Communication Major Requirements (36 Credit Hours)

To receive a B.A. in Communications a student must complete 120 hours.

Students select one of three concentrations (21 hours) to complete the major:

Students must obtain a grade of C or better for any course to be applied to the communication major or minor.

Applied Communication Major/Degree Completion (30 Credit Hours)

The Applied Communication Major is an online adult degree completion program designed to prepare the student for careers in communication-related and professional fields. Potential career areas include advertising, corporate relations, event planning, health communication, higher education, human resources, journalism, media production, media programming and management, the Internet and personal media, media research, organizational communication, public relations, speech writing, and training and consulting, among other possibilities.

To receive a B.A. in Applied Communication a student must complete 120 credit hours of study that include the major requirements, below, and the University General Education Requirements.
