The SXU Math Club Presents guest speaker Brittany Stephenson, Ph.D.
Title: “Using an Agent-Based Model to Compare Control Strategies for Clostridium difficile Infection”
Abstract: Clostridium difficile infection is the most common hospital-acquired illness in the United States. In studying this disease, Dr. Stephenson created an ordinary differential equations model and an agent-based model that she used to simulate disease transmission and compare strategies for controlling the spread of C. difficile.
About the speaker: Originally from Mississippi, Brittany Stephenson received her B.S. in Mathematics from Mississippi State University and her Ph.D. in Mathematics, with a concentration in Mathematical Ecology, from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. In the fall of 2018, she began her role as Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Lewis University in Romeoville, IL. Her research interests include utilizing mathematical models to solve biological problems, particularly with the objective of preventing disease spread. Much of her work has been focused on studying Clostridium difficile infection.
