A Celebration of 85 +1 Years of Excellence in Nursing Education

Saint Xavier and Mercy Hospital launched the first integrated baccalaureate nursing program in Illinois in 1935, integrating Saint Xavier's general education program with hospital-based laboratory courses and clinical practice hours to create an intensive four-year collegiate nursing curriculum. In 1939, four students were the first to graduate from the Collegiate School of Nursing.

For more than 85 years, SXU remains committed to providing a high-quality, transformative education to its students. We have reason to celebrate, and we welcome you to be a part of this momentous anniversary!

Please join us on Sunday, September 19, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Liturgy will be at  McDonough Chapel at 11:30 a.m.

Kay Thurn, PsyD, RN, clinical psychologist and professor emerita of Saint Xavier University and DePaul University will present: "Mercy Nursing Journeys: Coping with Challenges and Infusing Joy."

A luncheon in the Butler Reception Room of the Warde Academic Center will follow, including heavy appetizers, wine and beer. During the afternoon, nursing students will be honored to escort guests on tours of the nursing wing, including our recently renovated and expanded simulation labs.
