Calling all high school pianists, guitarists, bassists, vibes, and percussionists!
The SXU Music Department would like to invite you to a jazz rhythm section workshop and concert Sunday, October 3 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The SXU jazz faculty concert will follow beginning at 7:30 p.m. in McGuire Hall.
The workshop is open to all high school students that play a rhythm section instrument.
The workshop will focus on various aspects of jazz performance including:
- IMEA audition material - “The S is Silent” by Kris Berg
- Sight-reading exercises
- Jazz improvisation over blues and ii-V progressions
- Stylistic rhythmic feels for swing, Latin, funk and mixed-meter
- Lessons with SXU’s jazz faculty
- Group performance tips for playing in large ensembles and jazz combos
Pre-concert dinner provide for all students.
The day workshop will conclude with a dinner and free concert featuring the SXU jazz faculty at 7:30 p.m. in McGuire Hall.
