Kathleen Alaimo received her undergraduate degree in history from Brooklyn College in New York. She continued her studies at the University of Chicago where she earned a master's degree in European history and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she earned her Ph.D. in modern European history with a secondary field in women's studies. Professor Alaimo joined the SXU faculty in 1992 as an assistant professor. She has served as chair of the History and Political Science Department, as director of the Women and Gender Studies Program, as senior project director in the Honors Program, as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and as provost of the University.
She enjoys cooking and gardening, and loves to travel.

Her research focuses on the social construction of childhood and adolescence in modern European history and on the emergence of children's rights in Europe and the United States.
