Biography

Keiana Winters, Ph.D.,  is a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) and doctoral counselor educator in Illinois with expertise in counseling adults, adolescents, families and couples.

Winters has worked with dual diagnosis, process addictions, substance and alcohol use disorders, and has dedicated the last 11 years to working with various populations, including veterans and the LGBT community. Her work has focused on mentoring and fostering growth and independence in adults and adolescents so that they may overcome familial/relationship struggles, mental health issues and addiction.

Winters is an Approved Clinical Supervisor with additional certifications in trauma and diversity. She has experience working with individuals and groups for a multitude of concerns, including depression, anxiety, addictions, eating disorders and compulsions. As an alumna, she takes pride in helping the students at SXU.

Areas of Specialization

Winters has focused her research efforts on the mental health of the veteran population, as well as multiculturalism and adolescent development. Winters utilizes therapeutic interventions such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, gestalt therapy, mindfulness, behavior modification, dialectical behavioral therapy, prolonged exposure therapy and acceptance commitment therapy.
