Biography

Naomi Warren-Ross, ClinScD, is an assistant professorial lecturer in the Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) Department, where she supervises graduate students in a clinical setting and assists them to apply their academic knowledge and develop their own style of therapy.

Prior to her position at Saint Xavier University, Warren-Ross practiced as a school speech-language pathologist in Illinois and Missouri, most recently providing services to mostly African American students attending middle school in an economically depressed environment in North County, St. Louis, Missouri. Warren-Ross took on the role of therapist and educator and observed that the lack of direct grammar instruction was affecting the students' language and literacy skills and thus their ability to make progress in therapy. This blossomed into her research as part of the doctoral program at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, "The Effect of Explicit Grammar Instruction on the Reading Comprehension Skills of Late Elementary School Students." Warren-Ross's specialty areas include language and literacy development and disorders. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in communication sciences and disorders from Western Illinois University and a doctorate in clinical speech-language pathology from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.
