Biography

Sarah Schellinger, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department and serves as the Speech-Language Pathology graduate program director. Schellinger holds a bachelor's in linguistics and communicative disorders from the University of Wisconsin, a master's in speech-language pathology from the University of Wisconsin, and a doctorate in speech-language-hearing science from the University of Minnesota.

Before joining Saint Xavier in 2015, Schellinger practiced as a medical speech-language pathologist in Wisconsin and Minnesota, working in short and long-term acute care, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, and skilled nursing settings. Schellinger's specialty areas include assessing and treating individuals with neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders, with a particular interest in traumatic brain injury.

At SXU, Schellinger teaches undergraduate and graduate courses related to medical speech-language pathology, neurogenic communication disorders, neuroscience of communication, and professional practice issues. She also supervises students participating in clinical practicum experiences in the Ludden Speech and Language Clinic and conducts research in traumatic brain injury, public knowledge and attitudes about communication disorders, and provision of client, family, and patient education.
