Biography
As a proud alumna of Saint Xavier University, Lena Musa is thrilled to return to SXU as a student support specialist working with TRIO students. She will be advising students and providing academic and financial resources to support their educational journeys to ensure successful college completion.
Musa earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and minored in art history at SXU. She also received a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Benedictine University. Musa worked as a chemical technician for BP Research Center in Naperville for six years before making a career change in education. She taught students English for over 12 years at Moraine Valley Community College and Triton College. For the last eight years, she taught all subject areas to English language learners at Glenbrook South High School. Musa's work includes instructing, advising, and mentoring college and high school students from diverse cultures, religions and languages with the primary goal of achieving academic success retention, and graduation.
She proudly supports students who may be struggling with navigating a new school or culture and need to be sensitively transitioned into their new learning environment. Musa is a strong advocate for students dealing with mental health challenges and works hard to eliminate the stigma associated with it.
For more than two decades, Musa and her family owned and operated a successful restaurant in Evanston. For her, the best part was forming connections and lifelong friendships with loyal customers.
During her free time, Musa enjoys reading, spending time with family, visiting Chicago museums, watching movies and dining at ethnic restaurants.
