Southwest Chicago Math Teachers' Circle at SXU

The Southwest Chicago Math Teachers' Circle held its first monthly meeting of the academic year at SXU on September 15, 2016. Local middle school and high school mathematics teachers along with mathematics college faculty from SXU, Lewis University, Trinity Christian College, and St. Francis University explored Exploding Dots as a way to visualize fractions, decimals, and polynomial division. One of the many benefits of using Exploding Dots is that is allows students to use pattern recognition to calculate and make sense of the computational algorithms used in division.

SXU mathematics faculty, Dr. Kristen Schreck and Dr. Ahmad Mojiri, are on the leadership team of the Southwest Chicago Math Teachers' Circle. Future meeting dates and further information about the math circle can be found at: Southwest Chicago Math Circle.
