SXU's Meg Carroll works with local teachers and will lead Illinois Special Education Association

Date:07/25/2016

Saint Xavier University's (SXU) School of Education (SOE) Professor Meg Carroll, Ed.D., met with early childhood special educators from School District 159 in Matteson on April 21 to discuss how the assessment of teachers based in part on the achievement of their students will impact the teachers. She met again with the same group on May 6 as the team worked together to identify appropriate assessment tools for use with young children.

On May 21, Dr. Carroll was voted in as the president of the Learning Disabilities Association of Illinois. She has been on the board of the organization for several years, serving as secretary and newsletter writer/editor.

On May 27, Dr. Carroll presented serially to groups of School District 135 teachers on the topic of dyslexia and working effectively with students to help them gain adequate reading skills. She presented to approximately 200 educators who teach pre-K to grade two and then a smaller group of special educators from the same grade levels. Then, she presented to about 130 educators who teach in grades three through five, again, meeting later with just the special educators who serve students in the same grades. The need for this training developed from Dr. Carroll's presentation in March to the parents of district students with dyslexia.
