Mercy Word of the Week

Date:04/18/2016

The Mercy Word of the Week

As we progress through the Jubilee Year of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Francis, University Ministry offers our community a "Mercy Word of the Week" to help us focus on the themes of mercy that are already so closely aligned to our mission and heritage as an institution sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy.

The first Monday of each month will bring a brief reflection on each of the University's Core Values as expressions of our Mercy charism. We hope these focused thoughts will lead to your own considered contemplation on mercy and its role in your life.

Joy is both the result of mercy and the cause of mercy. Obviously, when we receive mercy, our hearts are overwhelmed with joy. When we show mercy to others, we also experience the joy of giving a gift beyond price. In this Easter season where Christians celebrate the joy of Jesus' resurrection, we can use our Easter joy as a conduit for sharing mercy. We are joyful that God, through his son, Jesus Christ, freed us from the bondage of sin and death. How profound! If we truly believe in the resurrection and all it means, we are overcome with joy, knowing that God, so infinite and omnipotent, chose to show mercy to us. Our belief calls us to action! And what more fitting way to share our Easter joy with the world than to show mercy to other? Living our Easter joy means sharing mercy with others, as God first did with us.
