Mercy Word of the Week

Date:08/08/2016

The Mercy Word of the Week

As we progress through the Jubilee Year of Mercy proclaimed by Pope Francis, University Ministry offers our community a "Mercy Word of the Week" to help us focus on the themes of mercy that are already so closely aligned to our mission and heritage as an institution sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy.

The first Monday of each month will bring a brief reflection on each of the University's Core Values as expressions of our Mercy charism. We hope these focused thoughts will lead to your own considered contemplation on mercy and its role in your life.

Children need to have their basic needs met but we have seen the damage done when that is the only thing they receive. Whether growing up without parents or in a home where the parents are emotionally absent, kids who do not learn love at an early age may have a hard time later. They don't all become criminals, of course, but they sometimes struggle emotionally later in life.

We must look out for the well-being of the children in our lives, not only to ensure their physical needs are covered, but to make sure they are cherished. We do this by spending time with them, engaging in the world with them, and of course, saying, "I love you."
