Shannon Center Weekly Nutrition Tip – Avoid Weight Gain during Finals

Date:11/21/2016

Avoiding weight gain around finals!

Like most college kids, the time around finals can take a toll on the body. Not only are you burning the midnight oil, but often making poor diet choices along with ditching your workout routine. So what can you do around finals time to keep things in check?

Head to the store and load up on some healthy snacks to keep your brain going as you write those last minute papers. Some examples would be:

  • Yogurt/Greek yogurt;
  • String cheese sticks;
  • Laughing cow cheese;
  • Hummus with veggies or baked chips;
  • Pretzels;
  • Fruit;
  • Protein bars (KIND, Kashi, Rx bars).

EXERCISE, EXERCISE, and EXERCISE!

Seriously…don’t skip your exercise. Moving will help you concentrate more, get better grades, sleep better and help maintain your weight. Schedule it in and stick to it! Click here for the Shannon Center exercise schedule and hours.

Make a study schedule so you aren’t pulling all-nighters. Wake up in time to eat a good breakfast before finals so you can concentrate better. Those high calorie coffee and energy drinks really take a toll on your energy levels, weight gain and concentration. Really try and limit them if you can.

Good luck and study hard!
