Shannon Center Weekly Nutrition Tip – Workout Power Foods!

Date:05/10/2016

Workout Power Foods!

Power foods are food that help decrease inflammation, help you recover after workouts.

Here are some great power foods to start incorporating into your daily diet:

Omega 3 rich foods help decrease LDL cholesterol, fight inflammation: salmon, almonds, pistachios, nuts, flaxseed, chia seed.

If you are NOT a fan of these foods and consume them 2-3 times a week, then I would add in 1,000 mg of fish oil daily.

Antioxidants, which are anthocyanins compounds found in fruits and veggies, are believed to reduce inflammation and help with recovery. Cherry juice has found its way into the limelight lately. You can take 1 oz. of tart juice (drink as is) or you can mix in a calorie-free mixer like club soda. Other sources: blue berries, raspberries, strawberries, bananas, red cabbage, kidney and black beans, and asparagus.
