Saint Xavier University (SXU) is pleased to announce its Inaugural SXU-Southside Summer Jazz Camp, which will run July 19 through 22 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on SXU's Chicago campus located at 3700 West 103rd Street.

The camp, open to students in grades 6 through 12, will provide students with the opportunity to learn from and work with an outstanding group of jazz educators who are dedicated in helping them gain their confidence and improve on their abilities as section players, improvisers and sight-readers.

The SXU-Southside Summer Jazz Camp is open to students of all levels of experience regardless of whether they are new to jazz or looking to expand their horizons. The camp will include daily rehearsals on jazz repertoire, instrumental sectionals, improvisation master-classes, jam sessions, guest concerts and music theory workshops. Students will showcase their talent with a final concert on the evening of Friday, July 22 in McGuire Hall.

The camp welcomes all instruments, including trumpet, trombone, saxophone, piano, string bass, guitar, vibraphone and drums. SXU-Southside Summer Jazz camp directors are Charles Martin, band director at Harold L. Richards High School, and Dr. Shawn Salmon, director of Jazz Studies at SXU.

Tuition for the camp is $50 per student ($45 if the student's band director is an SXU alum). Checks should be made payable to the SXU Music Department. Please register online.
