SXU’s M. Tara Joyce presented at State Reading and Dyslexia Conferences

Saint Xavier University's (SXU) School of Education (SOE) Associate Professor M. Tara Joyce, Ed.D., presented "Dyslexia: What Is It and What Helps?" at the Illinois Reading Council (IRC) Conference in Peoria, Ill. on Friday, Sept. 30. IRC is the state organization of the International Literacy Association. Conference attendees were classroom teachers, reading teachers and reading specialists, and higher ed. faculty in reading. There were 87 people in attendance at her session.

The Everyone Reading Illinois (ERI) Conference takes place Tuesday, October 4 and Wednesday, October 5 at the NIU Conference Center in Naperville. Dr. Joyce is presenting a session on "Phonological Awareness: Still Important for Beginning Reading Instruction" on October 4. The ERI conference is designed for reading and special ed. personnel, classroom teachers, tutors, and parents of students with the learning disability of dyslexia. In addition to this annual fall conference, a separate conference for parents of children and adolescents with dyslexia is held every April on a Saturday. ERI was formerly the Illinois Branch of the International Dyslexia Association.
