SXU's Human Resource Society celebrates first-year anniversary

Date:05/01/2017

On March 27, the Human Resources (HR) Society marked its first year anniversary at an end-of-year event. The HR Society is a student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the largest organization in the world for Human Resource (HR) professionals. In its first year, the HR society was led by two presidents, Slawomir Klus and Bria Moncure. The society organized and participated in several activities including volunteering at Feed My Starving Children, Women's Month, Career Fair, and a resume building workshop.

The chapter is sponsored by the South Suburban Cook Human Resources Association SHRM chapter and guided by a faculty advisor, Dr. Dayo Akinlade. At the event, the outgoing president, Bria Moncure, recognized the new officers: Daniel Omiecinski (President), Crystal Cabada (Vice President), Paloma Cruz (Secretary), Maryam Khaleq (Treasurer), Deara Gilliam (Director of Communications), and Esmeralda Ramos (Director of Communications).

The HR Society's goal is to help students interested in a career in Human Resources or a related field to network, polish the skills they are gaining in the classroom, and give back to the community. Next year, the society hopes to organize activities that will help all SXU students learn more about different careers and develop skills that will make them more attractive and competitive in the workforce.
