SXU's Peter N. Kirstein protests AAUP UIUC Censure Removal: covered in Chronicle, Inside Higher Ed

Saint Xavier University (SXU) Department of History Professor Peter N. Kirstein chairs the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) Illinois Committee A on academic freedom and tenure. His committee at the annual meeting of the AAUP in Washington, D.C. opposed the lifting of censure of the University of Illinois (U of I). The effort did not succeed, but was widely reported in the national press including The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed and The News-Gazette (Urbana-Champaign). AAUP removed the U of I from censure a mere two years following the Steven Salaita contract voidance. Professor Kirstein’s committee felt UIUC had not reformed adequately to merit censure removal.
