SXU's Shannon Ambrose Awarded Carpenter Fellowship in Manuscript Studies

Date:01/10/2017

Dr. Shannon Ambrose of the Department of Language and Literature at SXU was recently awarded the Carpenter Fellowship in Manuscript Studies from the Hill Museum and Monastic Library (HMML) of St. John's University in Minnesota. The HMML receives major funding from the Arcadia Fund of London, the Henry Luce Foundation, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Its mission is to encourage research on manuscripts and the cultures that produced them, as well as on the book arts, traditional and modern religious art, and related fields. The Carpenter prize supports residencies at HMML for research by senior scholars using the digital or microfilm manuscript collections at HMML.

Dr. Ambrose will be in residence at the HMML in spring of 2017, and there she will complete the initial draft of her book project on the material and intellectual culture of Austrian ecclesiastical foundations in the Hign Middle Ages. The monograph is titled Austrian Monastic Identities and Visionary Narrative Collections of the Twelfth and Thirteen Centuries: The Evidence of the Visio Cuiusdam Pauperculę Mulieris, the Visio Wettini, and the Vita S. Fursei.
