Saint Xavier University's (SXU) Student Media Summer Camp is going to be back in business this summer! The camp is open to incoming high school freshman through graduating seniors. Dates run from July 17 to 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The location of the camp will be on SXU's Chicago campus, 3700 West 103rd Street.

The Student Media Summer Camp will be focusing on radio broadcasting using SXU's radio station, WXAV as an example. Students will be taught broadcasting skills, ethics, equipment and terminology. They will also participate in lessons taught by media professionals, SXU staff and students. Students will integrate all they learn to produce their very own radio broadcasts!

The Camp also welcomes NBC 5 Chicago's Meteorologist Kalee Dionne to serve as a guest speaker on Thursday, July 20 at 1 p.m. She will discuss her rise to the No. 3 ranked media market in the nation, and share her path of broadcast media, a journey often not discussed in "traditional" journalism classes.

WXAV 88.3FM has been the recipient of multiple awards since 2003. In 2012, it was awarded first place in Best Radio Live Game Sports Broadcast, and second place for Best Radio Series or Documentary from an episode for Veteran Matters, and both from the Illinois Broadcasting Association Student Silverdome Awards. Between 15,000 and 40,000 individuals listen to WXAV online every month.

The Student Media Summer Camp costs $150 per student. Monday through Thursday students are asked to bring a lunch, and on Friday it will be provided. The dress code for the week is casual.

Parents/guardians will also need to fill out a health form , which should be returned to the Office of Academic Affairs at least one week prior to the camp's start date. They can be mailed to Debbie Nutley at 3700 West 103rd Street, Chicago, IL 60655, emailed to nutleyFREESXU , or faxed to 773-298-3002.
