SXU's Bruce Lipman presented at the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association Conference

Date:04/16/2018

Saint Xavier University's (SXU) Graham School of Management (GSM) Director of Graduate Programs Bruce Lipman ('85, '01) presented at the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA) Conference in Collegiate St. Louis on March 19.

Lipman's presentation was titled, "Implementing Procedural Justice and Legitimate Leadership." The four-hour presentation focused on inculcating the tenets of Procedural Justice (fairness, listening, transparency and respect) into the culture of organizations. Ultimately, these tenets comprise a simple but effective leadership model that is called Legitimate Leadership. When the hierarchy of an organization practices Legitimate Leadership, they serve as an example to others within the organization and encourage them to behave in a Procedurally Just way toward each other and those they serve or work with outside the organization.

In 2012, Lipman oversaw the development and delivery of a Procedural Justice training program for the Chicago Police Department. This training model was adopted as the National Model by the U.S. Department of Justice and has been or is currently being used by police departments in cities across 40 states including Pittsburgh, Fort Worth, Dallas, Oakland, Minneapolis, Birmingham and New York.

ILEETA is the largest organization of it's kind with thousands of members ranging from researchers, instructors, trainers and supervisors in the area of law enforcement and first responders.
