SXU Hosts Mental Health Screening and Education Days

The Saint Xavier University (SXU) Health Center recognizes the immeasurable impact mental health can have on all aspects of a person's life, including relationships, physical health, sleep, eating habits and academic performance. According to the American College Health Association's Healthy Campus 2020 survey, over twenty five percent of students reported that stress radically affected their academic performance and over eighty percent reported a diagnosis of depression and subsequent treatment. Whether it is stress, depression, anxiety or eating disorders, SXU encourages the mental wellbeing of its students and community and offers numerous ways for individuals struggling to seek help.

The Counseling Center sponsors two screening days every academic year for anxiety and depression. The ongoing goal is to provide wellness education to help students and to provide screening services for those concerned about the amount of stress or depression in their lives. The Mental Health Screening and Education Days combine a valid and reliable screening tool with interactive actives, such as games and prizes containing lighthearted, educational components.

Throughout the year, the SXU Health Center also offers the opportunities to schedule appointments with trained professionals. The nurse practitioners are licensed in family health and continuously service patients with anxiety and depression, often in tandem with appointments with the SXU Counseling Center. The Counseling Center is available for all enrolled SXU students where individuals are able to receive both individual and group counseling.

For more information about the SXU Counseling Center, Health Center or patient privacy policies, please visit the SXU website. To schedule an appointment with the Health Center, please call 773-298-3712. The SXU Health Center is open to the public.

This academic year's Mental Health Screening and Education Days will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Butler Reception Room on November 15, 2018, and April 10, 2019. All students are invited to attend.
