The SXU Gallery is proud to host the amazing work of Alfonso Piloto Nieves Ruiz, a self-taught artist from Queretaro, Mexico who moved to Chicago in 1997. He is a skilled sculptor who works primarily with clay and recycled materials to created dramatic, surreal pieces that deal with a wide range of social issues. While he draws upon his Mexican upbringing for many of his pieces, the themes he explores are universal to all humanity. He believes that art belongs to the public and that the community should participate to make it their own. His work is a call to others to be a part of the changing energy and spirit of the environment around them.

The exhibition runs from November 7 to December 4, with a presentation by the artist and reception on Wednesday, November 7 at 3:30 p.m. All are invited and encouraged and be a part of these powerful socially conscious sculptures.
