SXU hosts Mosaics: Muslim Voices in America, Music & the Art of Breakdance

Date:03/16/2018

Saint Xavier University's (SXU) Middle Eastern Studies program will host "Mosaics: Muslim Voices in America, Music and the Art of Breakdance" on Monday, March 19 at 7 p.m. in McGuire Hall. Join us to celebrate the diversity of Muslim-American artists as they share their paths to the arts and reflect on how they utilize soulful music and hip-hop dance to educate the public about Muslim-Americans. This event is free and open to the public.

Featured guest performers include:

  • The Reminders, Brussels-born emcee Big Samir and Queens-born emcee/vocalist Aja Black, a duo with soulful sounds and roots music with insightful messages.
  • Amirah Sackett, an internationally recognized hip-hop dancer, choreographer and teacher who believes hip-hop culture gives voice to those often unheard and is a way to uplift, inspire and bring change to those communities that need it the most.
  • DJ Man-o-Wax (Asad Ali Jafri), performs internationally spinning spiritual, soulful and, of course, funky music from around the world.
