SXU Visual Art Center is Home to a 'Sanctuary'

Date:09/25/2018

Saint Xavier University's (SXU) Visual Arts Center is hosting a unique exhibit now until October 11. Five SXU Art and Design students undertook the challenge to investigate what is meant by the word 'sanctuary' and create their own three-dimensional interpretation of the meaning.

Sanctuary is most commonly defined as a: safe place, political asylum, nature reserve, immigrant shelter or holiest room in a religious building. These definitions were the backbone for the personal journeys these students took while not only discovering the meaning for themselves but also projecting that meaning back out into the world. James Miller, Cheyenne Parra, Bianca Santoyo, Laura Sullivan and Temple Watkins each took several weeks to develop their own conceptual and visual process before finding refuge and peace in their art instillations.

All are invited and encouraged to find sanctuary at the Visual Art Center, located at 10435 S. Spaulding Avenue, and discover these interpretation on their own. Gallery hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
