Date:02/14/2019

Saint Xavier University's (SXU) Tim Ritchie, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology, was recently quoted by New Scientist in an article entitled "Unhappy Valentine's: why bad memories of your ex are so hard to shake".

The article goes into detail on how psychologists may have recently uncovered the reasons of why it can be so difficult for individuals to get over the pain of a breakup. A study performed by Bettina Zengel the University of Southampton, UK surveyed more than 200 men and women to gather data on former relationships and their current emotional states. Tim Ritchie offered his own thoughts on the study and praising it for its potential impact on identifying individuals later in need of counseling.

Tim Ritchie earned his Ph.D. in social and industrial-organizational psychology from Northern Illinois University and went on to earn a tenured position in 2012 at the University of Limerick, Ireland before joining SXU's psychology department in 2014. Ritchie has collaborated with scholars locally and internationally, is a peer reviewer for more than 30 scientific journals and is an accomplished author to over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, encyclopedia entries and book chapters.
