SXU Gallery Presents "The Great Migration" by David Anthony Geary
The SXU Gallery is proud to host the work of visual artist David Anthony Geary and his exhibit entitled "The Great Migration" from February 13 to March 8.
The Great Migration was the movement of over six million African-Americans out of the rural Southern United States to the urbanized Northeast, Midwest and West that occurred between 1910 and 1970. Geary's work celebrates with painted portraits of the individuals who were part of that vast movement, shaping the cultures of both the rural communities they left behind and the urbanized environments into which they settled.
In conjunction with his exhibition, Geary will be speaking about his work and what inspires him at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13. All are invited to join at the SXU Gallery for an insightful look into Geary's portraits of the Great Migration and the people who lived it. A reception will immediately follow.
Visit the SXU website for more information on the SXU Gallery and its exhibits. The gallery and attendance to Geary's reception are free and open to the public.
