SXU's MSN Program Ranked No. 5 Best Online Graduate Nursing Program by U.S. News & World Report

Saint Xavier University's (SXU) Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program has been ranked No. 5 for "Best Online Graduate Nursing Program" by U.S. News & World Report for 2021. SXU has consistently appeared in the top 5 for the last eight consecutive years.

"We are thrilled to be continually recognized for the rigor, innovation and quality of our online graduate nursing program. Our program prepares practicing nurses to be even stronger clinicians, providing advanced nursing knowledge and skills so they achieve higher levels of professional career success," said School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SONHS) dean and professor Gwendolyn George, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC.

The 2021 rankings are based on two types of data: expert opinions about program excellence and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school's faculty, research and students. Varied by discipline, the ranking methodology takes multiple factors into account, including job placement rates, starting salaries of graduates and academic quality ratings by officials at peer institutions. U.S. News judges the disciplines in consultation with experts in each field.

"Our online MSN program strives to meet the current and future health care needs of populations through advanced nursing practice and transformative leadership grounded in Mercy values," said Charlene Bermele, DNP, RN, CNE, director of online nursing programs and professor. "Being continually acknowledged through this prestigious ranking highlights the excellence of our program. It is a pleasure to work with our dedicated faculty, staff and students who work each day to make this happen."

The online MSN program at SXU is ideal for nurses who want to continue to work directly with patients while gaining tools and techniques that support superior patient care. Nursing students can choose from five tracks: Clinical Leadership, Executive Leadership, Nurse Educator, Family Nurse Practitioner and the MSN/MBA Dual Degree. The program is designed to help students refine their leadership skills, engage in high-impact learning practices and build experience in a practicum. As part of the high-impact experience, students have the opportunity to work in nursing simulation labs, which are immersive, sophisticated and use advanced technology to sharpen student critical-thinking and clinical decision-making skills that will optimize patient outcomes.

By working with expert faculty through practical experience, students are part of a learning community that is prepared for the changes and challenges of the 21st century health care workplace by learning how to be strong clinicians with a focus on health and wellness across diverse populations.

SXU's School of Nursing and Health Sciences is one of only 64 nursing programs across the country that is designated a Center of Excellence by the National League for Nursing.
