SXU’s MSN Program Ranked No. 6 Best Online Graduate Nursing Program by U.S. News & World Report

Date:01/26/2022

Saint Xavier University's (SXU) Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program has been ranked No. 6 out of nearly 200 universities across the United States for "Best Online Graduate Nursing Program" by U.S. News & World Report for 2022. SXU has consistently appeared in the top 10 for the last nine consecutive years.

"We are elated and proud to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report for the ninth consecutive year. Our program continues to offer practicing nurses opportunities to advance their nursing knowledge and skills as they move the profession of nursing to even greater heights," said School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SONHS) Interim Dean and Director of Online Nursing Programs Charlene Bermele, DNP, RN, CNE.

The 2022 rankings are based on five categories: engagement, faculty credentials and training, expert opinion, services and technology, and student excellence. The ranking methodology takes multiple factors into account, including student collaboration in classes and clinical settings; academic credentials of instructors and their ability to teach distance learners; intangible factors affecting program quality; diverse online learning technologies; strong support structure, career guidance and financial aid resources; and proven aptitudes, ambitions and accomplishments of students.

U.S. News selects factors, known as ranking indicators, to assess each program, assigning a score out of 100. SXU's score is 97, in the top 5% of scores among schools.

"Our online MSN program strives to meet the current and future health care needs of diverse populations through advanced nursing practice and transformative leadership grounded in Mercy values," said Bermele. "Continually being acknowledged by this prestigious ranking highlights the excellence of our easily accessible, affordable and quality-driven program. It is a pleasure to work with our dedicated administration, faculty, staff and students who work to promote educational quality as we advance our future nurse leaders."

The online MSN program at SXU is ideal for nurses who want to continue to work directly with patients while gaining tools and techniques that support superior patient care. Nursing students can choose from five tracks: Clinical Leadership, Executive Leadership, Nurse Educator, Family Nurse Practitioner and the MSN/MBA Dual Degree. The program is designed to help students refine their leadership skills, engage in high-impact learning practices and build experience in a practicum.

By working with expert faculty through practical experience, students are part of a learning community that is prepared for the changes and challenges of the 21st century health care workplace. They develop into strong clinicians with a focus on health and wellness across diverse populations.

SXU's School of Nursing and Health Sciences is one of only 64 nursing programs across the country that is designated a Center of Excellence by the National League for Nursing.
