The Saint Xavier University (SXU) community is looking forward to a bright 2024, and part of their preparation involves thinking about how they will more deeply integrate SXU's mission and core values into their lives in the new year. Check out some of SXU's faculty, staff and student ideas below.

Respect: In the new year, I am dedicated to showing the utmost respect to everyone I cross paths with – whether it's a new professor, a peer in my classroom, or someone I meet on the street. I understand that we all have important ideas and diverse valuable insights and that opening my mind and heart will help me to broaden my perspective on the world and feel more connected to those around me.

Excellence: I am striving to exhibit excellence in all that I do in the new year. If I need assistance, I will communicate with my professors, make an appointment with the Center for Learning and Student Support, attend the workshops and events put on by the Center for SUCCESS, and dedicate myself to studying hard and balancing my time to create the best possible outcome for myself.

Compassion: I so enjoyed participating in the service opportunities offered by SXU during 2023 that I plan to commit myself to even more service in 2024. Like our founding Sisters of Mercy, I will extend compassion to the underserved in the hopes that our important work will meet the needs of those who are struggling and create more equitable outcomes for the future.

Service: In the new year, I am going to step outside of my comfort zone and apply for the International Mercy Service Trip to Belize. Not only will I meet new people and make new friends, but I will make a huge impact on the life of a needy family. I am grateful to SXU for providing opportunities for growth, cultural exposure, and important service.

Hospitality: As a student leader on campus, my goal for 2024 is to recruit more students to join our RSOs and serve in leadership positions. I will work diligently to extend hospitality to all who are interested in joining but might be a little shy or uncertain. I will ensure our groups are inclusive and promote belonging. Sometimes a friendly face is just what one needs to feel welcomed.

Integrity: It is important for me to serve as a trusted and knowledgeable mentor to my students. In 2024, I hope to work collaboratively on exciting and innovative faculty-student research and encourage my students to act with integrity when it comes to their academic work. Together, we will build character and define values.

Diversity: With the launch of SXU's Office of Inclusive Excellence, I commit myself to participating in more of their educational opportunities so I can learn and grow. From lunch-and-learns and workshops to summits and book clubs, there are so many opportunities for us to come together as a community and work toward honoring and celebrating the unique diversity that makes us SXU!

Learning for Life: I've always been a curious person, but SXU inspires me to truly never stop learning. In 2024, I plan to attend educational opportunities on campus, research graduate programs, and spend more time at the Robert and Mary Rita Murphy Stump Library – it's such a beautiful and peaceful place, after all!
