For the fifth year in a row, Saint Xavier University (SXU) has been named a Military Friendly® School by Military Friendly®, and for the second time, the University has earned Gold status. Only a small percentage of the schools selected earned Gold status, designated to schools who have leading practices, outcomes and effective programs. Military Friendly® considers six key areas critical to helping a veteran thrive on campus: academic policies and compliance, admission and orientation, culture and commitment, financial aid and loan repayment, graduation and career outcomes, and military student support and retention.

Military Friendly® is an organization whose standard measures, investigates and identifies institutions whose commitment to serving the military and veteran community creates sustainable and meaningful opportunities for them. Each year, Military Friendly® raises the bar on how it ranks participating organizations, which they believe is essential to providing better civilian outcomes for veterans and assisting organizations in their efforts to improve. As a Gold school, SXU is part of an exclusive list.

"We are so proud to earn Gold status and receive this prestigious designation for the fifth year in a row! This is a true testament to all of us here at SXU who strive to serve student veterans daily. I am so grateful for my supervisor, Gricelda Gonzalez, who has taught me the importance of this role, as well as efforts from the Offices of Student Accounts, University Relations, Institutional Research and Financial Aid. Without them, this designation certainly would not be possible. We will continue to serve our student veterans to the best of our abilities while understanding that what they bring to this institution cannot be replaced," said Matthew Maltese, compliance advisor for student veterans.

Saint Xavier is committed to serving veterans and assisting with their transition to college. Veteran students are provided with resources to help them achieve their educational goals. SXU is also a proud participant of the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, which helps to fund qualified student veterans' tuition expenses.

The SXU Student Veteran Alliance (SVA) advocates and assists SXU student veterans and their families by promoting camaraderie through community outreach and social support and by committing to academic and professional success. SVA holds regular meetings and hosts events, including bake sales, toy drives and an annual veterans' breakfast on Veterans Day for SXU student veterans and supporters.

"Shifting between the military to student life presents its challenges. However, the faculty and staff members at SXU have welcomed veterans who want to further their education in a safe community where we can bond together during this new journey. As president of the Student Veterans Alliance at Saint Xavier University, I've found a welcoming community that honors my past and champions my future," said Karely Padilla, SVA president.
