SXU to Host Spring Advising and Career Success Day
Saint Xavier University (SXU) will host the spring 2024 Advising and Career Success Day on Wednesday, February 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Shannon Athletic and Convocation Center.
Students will experience a day of transformation as they connect with advisors, attend professional and personal development sessions focused on academic and career success, network with alumni and mentors, and explore internship and job opportunities at the College-to-Career Expo.
"90 employers from companies and organizations across the U.S. will come to sit with students and discuss their immediate and long-term goals. Through conversations surrounding career opportunities, internships, personal growth, and networking, these professionals from the for-profit, nonprofit, and education sectors will find their future all-stars. We're proud to provide another Advising and Career Success Day, primarily because of the the opportunities for success it provides our students," said James Miller, associate director of Employer Engagement and Internships.
By attending, students will learn how to gain and articulate experiences and skills valued by employers; effectively listen and communicate in the workplace; manage stress during a job search; navigate a diverse workplace; prepare for an interview, develop a resume, and navigate a job fair; and network and leverage relationships with career and industry professionals.
No classes will take place during the day, but student attendance is required in place of attending in-person classes.
"Because Saint Xavier University students spend so much time committed to their studies, building a body of work as they push toward earning their degrees, it is critically important for them to take a step back from time to time and look at the big picture. That’s what Advising and Career Success Day really does for them -- it gives students a chance to step away from their studies for a day and focus on where they’re going. They'll spend time evaluating their paths to graduation, identifying areas of growth, and possibly adjusting their routes based on what they learn," added Miller.
From 9 to 10 a.m., students will meet their advisors and attend major workshop sessions to learn more about their majors or explore other majors. From 10 to 11 a.m., students will connect with alumni in the Shannon Center Esports Lounge.
The College-to-Career Expo portion of the day is open to the public and will be hosted from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Shannon Center Recreational Gym.
From 2 to 4 p.m., students will meet with their faculty advisors.
