SXU Celebrates Pride Month

Saint Xavier University (SXU) proudly celebrates Pride Month in June with a variety of educational programming for faculty, staff and students.
On Tuesday, June 17, stop by the Wiseman Student Lounge from noon to 2:30 p.m. for "Out and Proud in Chicago," a screening of the PBS documentary that highlights Chicago's LGBTQ+ history from the Civil War to the early 2000s. Treats will be provided.
On Monday, June 30, from noon to 1 p.m., join Ana Karen Salgado and Camila Márquez from the Office of Family and Community Engagement for "Standing with Our Students: Supporting the LGBTQ+ Community in Hostile Times." This virtual presentation will cover how today's anti-LGBTQ+ legislation impacts students and the practical steps you can take to support SXU's LGBTQ+ community on campus. Please register.
The community can also celebrate Pride with a collection of books, films, documentaries, and more at SXU's Robert and Mary Rita Murphy Stump Library and partake in events around the city of Chicago. The Chicago Public Library is another excellent resource for events, book recommendations, displays and more that honor all aspects of queer life, history and culture.
Community members are also encouraged to participate in the Safe Zone program at SXU, which promotes an inclusive and welcoming environment for LGBTQIA+ persons by educating allies on implicit bias, stereotypes, terminology related to sex, gender, sexual orientation, relationships and gender identity expression, as well as the privilege and limitations of oppression.
