Several Saint Xavier University (SXU) students were recently inducted into the Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honor Society (Beta Alpha Kappa chapter). Deana Elhit, Isabella Garcia Del Bosque, Jason Jimenez-Garrido, Mariam Jaber and Vanessa Orlando were recognized for their excellence in communication studies.

Lambda Pi Eta, the official communication honor society of the National Communication Association, was founded in 1985 with the purpose of recognizing, fostering, and rewarding outstanding scholastic achievement in the field of communication. The name "Lambda Pi" symbolizes the three modes of persuasion described by Aristotle: Logos (Lambda), Pathos (Pi), and Ethos (Eta). The society's mission includes fostering interest in the communication field, facilitating discussions and exchanges of ideas, and building strong relationships between faculty and students. There are hundreds of chapters established at colleges and universities across the U.S.

To be eligible for admission to the SXU chapter, undergraduate students must complete 60 credit hours, hold a minimum GPA of 3.0, complete 12 credit hours in communication studies with a GPA of 3.25 for all communication courses, and be enrolled as a senior student in good standing.

The chapter, recently restarted by communication professor Vince Davis, Ph.D., is currently working on specific goals that align with the goals of the national society, including stimulating interest in the communication discipline, promoting and encouraging professional development among communication majors, and exploring options for graduate communication studies.

"We couldn’t be prouder of our students inducted into the Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honor Society. Their hard work, passion for the communication discipline, and dedication to excellence truly inspire us. It's an honor to celebrate their achievements," Davis said on behalf of the entire Communication Department.

"As a senior, words cannot describe how exciting and rewarding it felt to be inducted into the Beta Alpha Kappa Chapter at SXU! To know all my hard work and dedication was recognized by Lambda Pi Eta and awarded me a spot into the society was one of the best feelings I have ever had. As a first-generation student on both sides of my family, the feeling of being in Beta Alpha Kappa is a reminder that it was all worth it and will be part of my journey forever! I thank my family, the Communication Department, and Saint Xavier for such a wonderful and honorable experience that I will always remember," said senior Vanessa Orlando.
