Saint Xavier University (SXU) nursing faculty recently volunteered at Mercy Circle to provide education to their care team. The "Competency and Skills Day" is an invaluable event for the Mercy Circle team.

For more than five years, School of Nursing faculty and staff have spent time each summer volunteering their time and expertise at Mercy Circle. The partnership ensures that the residents and clients of Mercy Circle receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care and also helps the Saint Xavier community to perpetuate the institution's Mercy mission.

"The School of Nursing's ongoing collaboration with Mercy Circle allows nursing faculty to demonstrate educational support and validate needed skills of nursing staff at Mercy Circle. It is a rewarding way to continue in our tradition of providing excellent education to our Mercy Circle community partners," said Charlene Bermele, DNP, dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

"The opportunity for staff to refresh and validate their clinical skills alongside SXU faculty is truly unique. It not only reinforces best practices but also instills a renewed sense of confidence and pride in their work. We've seen measurable improvements in clinical performance following each event, and our staff look forward to this day with great enthusiasm," said Frances Lachowicz, Mercy Circle executive director.

"Equally important, this program provides reassurance to our residents and their families. Many of our residents are retired clinicians, educators, and faculty members who deeply understand the value of continuing education and professional accountability. They wholeheartedly support the initiative and appreciate knowing that our staff are being held to the highest standards. This collaboration sets a high standard for professional development in senior care and exemplifies the power of academic-community partnerships," added Lachowicz.
