This Thanksgiving season, Saint Xavier University (SXU) is embracing gratitude by reflecting on its numerous blessings and actively contributing to the community in alignment with its Mercy mission. Fiercely committed to the core values of service, compassion and hospitality, the community is giving back in a variety of ways.

For the sixth year in a row, the Office of University Relations collected non-perishable food items to benefit families seeking support from the Oak Lawn Pilgrim Faith Food Pantry. Collecting both cash donations and over 200 canned, boxed, and bagged items, the team, along with the Office of Accounting, was able to provide Thanksgiving meals to multiple families, critically important this year as Illinois SNAP recipients were impacted by benefits disruption in November.

Registered student organization (RSO) Pathway to Med partnered with Cradles to Crayons for a winter coat drive supporting children in need, reflecting their mission to help others through meaningful action. The group collected new and gently used children's coats, boots, gloves, and scarves, with a goal for every child to feel warm this winter.

RSOs Latinos in Healthcare, the Pre-Dental Association, and the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) are holding a holiday toy drive. The groups are collecting new, unwrapped toys for children in need. Donations are being accepted in the Student Organization Center (SOC) from December 1-5.

RSO Women Entering Business is collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations to support the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Aiming to help feed families this holiday, the group will be collecting donations at a table in the SXU Diner every weekday through December 5.

Earlier in November, Latinos in Healthcare organized Cards Made with Love, an event where students created uplifting cards for children around the world. NSSLHA held a book drive and collected new and gently used books to donate to Bernie's Book Bank for children from birth to sixth grade.

The Saint Xavier community is dedicated to sharing gratitude during the holiday season and beyond, fostering connections and enhancing spirit – together in Mercy.
