The Saint Xavier University (SXU) School of Nursing recently held its annual White Coat Ceremony, where nearly 100 nursing students took a meaningful step toward their future careers.

The ceremony, presented in partnership with the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, is one of the most recognized traditions in nursing and medical education. It marks the formal welcome of new students into the profession, with an emphasis on compassionate, patient-centered care from day one of their training.

Students recited the Oath to Compassionate Patient Care, a reflection of SXU's Mercy mission that calls on them to act with compassion and integrity, apply the values of the Sisters of Mercy to their practice, and commit to protecting the health, safety and rights of every patient they serve.

"This ceremony is a time-honored tradition where we celebrate our junior nursing students entering their first clinical rotation. The ceremony welcomes the student to a profession of caring and compassion and the students take an oath to uphold the values we honor as nursing professionals. Every seat in McGuire Hall was occupied and was exploding with excited students and proud family members," said Megan Pet, DNP, dean.
