SXU Student-Athlete Named CCAC Softball Player of the Week

Saint Xavier University (SXU) redshirt sophomore Jazmyn Casas has earned Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Player of the Week for the second week in a row.
Across six games in Alabama, the infielder batted .479 with seven RBIs, collecting at least one in five of the six games, with two runs, two stolen bases, and a double. She added a .476 on-base percentage and slugged .526.
Casas's achievement marks the fourth straight week the Cougars have been awarded the CCAC Player of the Week and the first time since 2023 that SXU has had the same player win the award in back-to-back weeks.
"It feels great to be named Player of the Week two times in a row. It shows off the hard work this program puts in, especially since Saint Xavier softball has held Player of the Week four times in a row," Casas said.
With just a short amount of time on the team, Casas is already making a name for herself.
In 18 games this season, Casas leads the team with a .436 batting average (24-for-55), 21 RBI, a team-best .673 slugging percentage, and a team-best 1.173 OPS (on-base plus slugging). She is tied for the team lead with five doubles. Casas has scored 12 runs with five walks, four stolen bases on four attempts, two home runs, and a triple.
"I am hoping to leave an impact on this program on and off the field. A World Series Championship is our goal, and this is our year to do it," Casas said
As a transfer student from the University of Illinois-Chicago, Casas fell in love with Saint Xavier's family atmosphere. She envisions herself growing not only on the field but also as a scholar.
"The program as a whole is the best part of being a student athlete here at Saint Xavier. Going through recruitment, nothing compared to the coaching staff. We are a family, with staff who treat us like their own children. The culture that they push for is what brings so much passion for the game and helps us [athletes] create trusting bonds with each other," Casas said.
Being a psychology major, Casas hopes to become a sports psychologist and continue her education after obtaining her bachelor's degree. SXU's psychology program is ranked by U.S. News & World Report for its outstanding ability to provide students with the knowledge needed for understanding human behavior, broadly applicable to many fields, as well as skills that are critical in any occupation, current or yet to be identified, including skills such as statistical literacy, analytical thinking, scientific reasoning and writing, communication, and interpersonal and collaborative skills.
"I chose psychology with the hopes of becoming a sports psychologist and working with athletes of all ages. I hope to go to grad school after I graduate," Casas said.
