SXU to Host Workshop for Parents and Caregivers

Saint Xavier University (SXU) will host "Growing Together at SXU – Empowering Families: A Community Workshop for Parents and Caregivers" on Saturday, October 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Butler Reception Room. Parents of young children from the surrounding neighborhoods, communities and the University are invited to participate in the workshop. The fee to participate is $25 ($20 for SXU employees) and includes lunch.
Aimed at parents and caregivers of children from infancy through fifth grade, the workshop will feature experts who will cover topics including early childhood learning, school readiness and community and healthcare resources. The day will conclude with a vendor and resource fair offering services and products for families with young children.
Parents may bring their children ages three to eight at no additional fee. Saint Xavier Education students will provide childcare while parents attend the workshop. As student teachers, the students will bring their learning in best practices in the care of primary children. While snacks and lunch will be provided for the children, parents of children with special dietary needs or allergies are also welcome to bring food for their children.
"Raising healthy, happy children starts in infancy and requires collaboration among parents, grandparents, educators, healthcare professionals and community partners. Growing Together at SXU is designed to bring these dedicated individuals together to share strategies, resources and support for families. When we invest in children, we invest in the future," said Rania Sadeq, Ed.D., assistant professor of education and director of the community workshop.

"It takes a village to raise a child, and this workshop is an opportunity to begin building and strengthening that village within our community. Together, we can empower families, strengthen communities, and help every child thrive," added Sadeq.
