SXU Voted Southland's Best College/University

Saint Xavier University (SXU) has been voted the No. 1 Best College/University by the Southland for the Southland's Best 2026 awards. For the past six years, the Southland's Best has spotlighted standout organizations that help the surrounding communities flourish. This marks the second time SXU was voted the Southland's best college.

This award reflects the trust and support of the community we are proud to serve, as well as the collaborative dedication of our faculty and staff, who work each day to prepare students not only for successful careers, but for lives of purpose, leadership and service. Rooted in our Mercy mission, SXU prepares students to think critically, communicate effectively, and serve compassionately in ways that advance human dignity and the common good," said SXU President Keith Elder, Ph.D.

The Southland's Best aims to tell the stories of impactful people and places, recognizing the local organizations that are the heart and soul of the Southland. In 2025, more than 14,000 voters cast over 280,000 votes across more than 170 categories, demonstrating the pride Southland residents have in supporting local organizations, including SXU.

For 180 years, Saint Xavier has been part of Chicago's South Side, and generations of students, alumni, families and community partners have been part of its story. Being named Southland's Best College/University is especially meaningful because it comes from the community with whom SXU has shared such a long history.

Saint Xavier's long and storied Mercy tradition on the South Side of Chicago, mission-focused, student-centered learning environment, and commitment to a transformative education that produces career-ready graduates who approach their futures with purpose make it a trusted and respected institution in the Southland.
