Scholarship Details

The Elizabeth Hunter Service and Leadership Award was created in memory of the mother of Dr. Joyce A. Hunter, adjunct professor at Saint Xavier University. Mrs. Elizabeth Hunter was a lifelong advocate of service, hospitality and fostered leadership skills to both family and friends. Elizabeth dedicated her life to helping her family, friends and others within her community. The award recognizes the outstanding contributions of a student who has contributed to the success of the Graham School of Management through their personal commitment and enthusiasm for the betterment of the community and the University as a whole.

Criteria

  1. Candidates must be full-time degree seeking student at the University who are in-coming Juniors or Seniors and have declared a major in Hospitality Management or Marketing within the Graham School of Management. Preference will be given to students who major in Hospitality Management.
  2. Candidates must have an overall minimum GPA of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  3. Candidates must submit a minimum 500 word essay which clearly outlines and describes their participation and leadership in service to the University and/or community, without regard to personal gain, while exhibiting commitment to the causes, concerns, events or needs at hand. In addition, candidates must demonstrate personal commitment, leadership, enthusiasm, motivation, innovation and involvement in their service activities.
  4. Candidates may be nominated for the award by the Graham School of Management faculty, University administrators or staff, other students, or may nominate themselves.
  5. Candidates must provide two letters of recommendation from either faculty, administrators, or staff at the University.
  6. Candidates must be in good academic standing with the University.

Nomination

Each nominator is asked to include a paragraph that explains why they feel a given candidate should receive the award. Once nominations are received the GSM Scholarship Committee will meet to review the nominations and select a recipient.
