Health Insurance for Students
Insurance coverage and hard waiver is only required for School of Nursing and Health Science (SONHS) students attending clinical placement and international students.
Saint Xavier University (SXU) partnered with Gallagher Student Health (Gallagher), to provide a PPO insurance plan from United Health Care to students who must have health insurance as a condition of enrollment for the 2021-22 academic year. This partnership will be discontinued as of May 18, 2022.
School of Nursing and Health Sciences students attending clinical placement and international students are required to be covered under a comprehensive health insurance plan that can be used in the State of Illinois. These students are the only students eligible to enroll in the policy.
The United Health Care PPO policy is automatically added to your account and billed to you via the SXU Health Center.
- If you already have comprehensive health insurance that can be used in the State of Illinois and do not want this coverage, you MUST provide the details of your policy (also called a waiver) and receive an approved waiver from Gallagher indicating your policy meets minimum requirements to remove the Gallagher policy and related charges from your account.
- Gallagher will review your policy to ensure it meets minimum requirements and process your waiver request.
Accelerated BSN students with an anticipated graduation of August 2022 who enrolled in the annual United policy via Gallagher from May 18, 2021 to May 17, 2022, must provide proof of insurance for the summer 2022 term (May 18 to August 13, 2022).
Spring 2022 semester SONHS students attending clinicals must either choose to enroll or waive the student insurance policy through this link on or before the December 9, 2021, deadline. The policy for spring 2022 students will be active from January 10, 2021 to July 31, 2022, at the cost of $1,160.00.
Accessing good health insurance at an affordable price can be a challenge. As an added benefit, students who enroll in the policy, can also add their spouse and/or dependents to the policy. You can find details about this process on the Gallagher website.
