Undergrad Education Endorsements

ESL Endorsement

The English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement prepares candidates to teach emergent bilingual students in an ESL program. Candidates do not need to be multilingual for this endorsement. The endorsement attaches to a teaching license at the grade level of the license. When taken at the graduate level, the courses can be used toward the Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). No tests are required for this endorsement. Candidates will gain 100 hours of field experience in this endorsement; teachers who have taught on a valid license for three months in a classroom including English Learners will be granted a waiver for these field hours. Undergraduates will earn the endorsement as well as a minor in ESL.

Bilingual Education Endorsement

The Bilingual Education endorsement prepares candidates to teach emergent bilingual students in bilingual education, dual language, and two-way-immersion (TWI) programs. The endorsement attaches to a teaching license at the grade level of the license. Candidates need to pass a state language proficiency test in one or more world languages for this endorsement. When taken at the graduate level, these courses can be used toward the Master of Arts in TESOL. Candidates will gain 100 hours of field experience in this endorsement; teachers who have taught on a valid license for three months in a classroom including English Learners will be granted a waiver for these field hours. Undergraduates will earn the endorsement as well as a minor in Bilingual Education.
