Traditional Transfer BSN Program and Accelerated BSN Program Information Sessions

Prospective transfer nursing students are encouraged to attend a Transfer Nursing Information Session to learn more about Saint Xavier University's College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Business and our undergraduate nursing programs. Presentations will include program information, application and admission requirements, as well as financial aid and scholarship information.

Registration for all sessions will be posted on a chronological basis. Zoom links for the virtual information sessions will be distributed via email in the days leading up to the session.

Traditional BSN Option

 

Transfer applications for the Traditional BSN Program are accepted for summer, fall and spring.

Please note: The application priority deadline for summer and fall is June 1, and the spring semester is October 1.

Students must complete the entire application process by the deadline before being considered for admission. All applications received after the deadline date will be automatically moved forward to the next semester's deadline.

In order to complete an application, all students must complete the following transfer admission requirements:

  • Complete an online application. Select "Nursing" as your program of interest.
  • Submit an in-depth essay that discusses why you want to become a nurse and why you are interested in pursuing your nursing degree at Saint Xavier. The essay is an integral part of your nursing application and should be a minimum of 300 words or approximately one page in length.
  • Read, sign and submit the College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Business Essential Abilities Form.
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. A 2.75/4.0 cumulative GPA is required from all college coursework to be considered for admission. If you have not completed 30 college credit hours, we will also require a copy of your official high school transcript.
  • ATI TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) scores. Only the first three ATI TEAS test attempts are allowed. Students must score "proficient" (58.7%) or higher in order to be considered for admission. For more information, students should review the following information:
  • ATI TEAS testing information, including study guides and practice exams.
  • Registration for the ATI TEAS exam is available on our Saint Xavier University's testing page. Students may also contact their local community colleges to see if the ATI TEAS test is administered at those locations.

Students who apply and are admitted into the nursing program at Saint Xavier University can anticipate at least one semester of coursework at Saint Xavier with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher before starting nursing courses.

Accelerated BSN Option

 

Please note: This is a May cohort. There is no application deadline, however, we encourage students to apply as soon as possible, ideally during the fall semester before their intended May cohort. This allows students the most ability to meet with our program director to discuss courses, and complete any required prerequisites before the program beings in May.

The Accelerated-BSN (A-BSN) option allows the student with an earned baccalaureate degree to move through the baccalaureate pre-licensure program within a reduced time frame. Students in the A-BSN option begin coursework each May and complete the BSN program in 15 months. Courses are offered only full-time with no breaks between sessions.

In order to complete an application, all students must complete the following admission requirements:

  • Complete an online application.
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended with a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 with an earned baccalaureate degree.
  • Read, sign and submit the College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Business Essential Abilities Form.
  • Submit two professional letters of recommendation.
  • Submit a current resume or brief curriculum vitae.
  • Submit personal statement/essay. This should be 300-500 words describing reasons for career change and choosing nursing as a major. Explain any attributes or characteristics that demonstrate you are a good candidate for an A-BSN program and your career goals as a nurse.
  • Complete an interview with School of Nursing.

Before beginning clinical courses, all students must provide the following: current health history, physical examination, complete immunization record, required laboratory reports, 12 panel drug screen, CPR certification, proof of health insurance and an Illinois State Police criminal background check.

LPN to BSN Option

In order to complete an application, all students must complete the following transfer admission requirements:

  • Complete an online application. Select "Nursing/LPN" as your program of interest.
  • Submit an in-depth essay that discusses why you want to become a nurse and why you are interested in pursuing your nursing degree at Saint Xavier. The essay is an integral part of your nursing application and should be a minimum of 300 words or approximately one page in length.
  • Hold a current license as a practical nurse (LPN). LPN license must come from a nursing program that is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. Students can find out if their program is accredited by visiting the ACEN website.
  • Read, sign and submit the College of Nursing, Health Sciences and Business Essential Abilities Form.
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. A 2.75/4.0 cumulative GPA is required from all college coursework to be considered for admission. If you have not completed 30 college credit hours, we will also require a copy of your official high school transcript.

All graduates from a NLNAC accredited practical nursing program or a program approved by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation who have not yet completed the NCLEX-PN should apply to the traditional nursing program. Once they have successfully completed the NCLEX-PN, they may request to be re-classified as an LPN to BSN student in the baccalaureate nursing program.

LPN to BSN students advance from Sophomore II to the Junior II level in the nursing curriculum upon successful completion of Sophomore II level. This allows completion of the five semester nursing sequence in four semesters.

Students in the LPN to BSN option are awarded advanced placement credit in nursing after successfully completing 12 credit hours in nursing with a NGPA (nursing grade-point average) of 2.3 or better. This recognizes the LPN's previous education. Students must complete a formal request form in the School of Nursing.
